Frequently Asked Questions

Watering frequency depends on the plant type, season, and environmental conditions. Generally, it's better to let the soil dry slightly between waterings. Check soil moisture by inserting a finger into the soil: if it's dry in the top 2-3 centimeters, it's time to water. Tropical plants like Monsteras prefer slightly moist soil, while succulents tolerate drought better.

Each plant has different light requirements. Most indoor plants prefer bright but indirect light. Place them near an east or west-facing window to get good exposure without harsh direct sunlight. Dark-leaved plants generally tolerate lower light, while variegated plants need more light to maintain their colors. If you notice your plant stretching toward the light, it may indicate it's not receiving enough.

Most indoor plants thrive between 18°C and 24°C (64°F-75°F), which generally corresponds to comfortable room temperature for humans. Avoid sudden temperature changes and cold drafts from open doors or windows. Keep your plants away from radiators, air conditioners, and other sources of extreme heat or cold. Some tropical plants can tolerate higher temperatures, while others prefer cooler environments.

Many indoor plants, especially tropical species, benefit from higher humidity. You can increase humidity by grouping your plants together, using a humidifier, or placing trays filled with pebbles and water under your pots (without the pot bottom touching the water). Misting leaves can also help temporarily, though this method is less effective long-term. Bathrooms with windows often provide an excellent environment for humidity-loving plants.

Fertilizing helps your plants maintain healthy, vigorous growth. During the active growing period (spring and summer), fertilize your plants every 2-4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half the recommended concentration. In fall and winter, when growth slows, reduce or stop fertilization. Too much fertilizer can be more harmful than too little, causing salt buildup in the soil and damaging roots. Always use a fertilizer specifically designed for indoor plants.

Common pests include aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Regularly inspect your plants, especially under leaves and at stem nodes. For light infestations, clean leaves with a damp cloth or spray with mild soapy water. For more severe cases, use an insecticide suitable for indoor plants or a natural treatment like neem oil. Isolate infested plants to prevent spread. Prevention is key: keep your plants healthy with proper watering and lighting.
